Ping- Pung 2024

Ping Pung is a circular table tenis illuminated from the top by hanging UV light. Lines, net, balls and bats are painted in UV colour. The table is connected with 4 piezo microphones that recieve the ping sound from the table, that goes to effectors (delay, reverb, phaser) and play it to the speaker that is also under the table. There are two options. On burning man events I install a referee empire where the effectors are and every person can modulate the sound. On more commercial festivals, there is no empire and I put the effects under the table, so people cant change the modulation settings.
The installation itself creates a question: Art is just the object thats main purpose is to look at it, or, art is a medium that creates a relationships between people? This projects reflects to todays society where people stands in the opposition to each other. But in the better world, people sit around the circular table, and instead of opposition they are in collaboration with each other to create a beter world. Same the ping pung is a metaphor to this. Instead of playing against others, you play together and create your own rules, that are based on fun and love.
