FUD Lobby Reconstruction 2014

Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic

My latest project was the reconstruction of the lobby of the Faculty of Arts and Design. The original functionalistic building was rebuilt fifteen years ago, but the functionalist elements were preserved. I hence decided to not only keep them but to also highlight them. Since the building houses both the Arts and Design departments, my main goal was to link the rules of design with the aesthetics of art, by strong element. As the lobby is also as a passage to other faculties, I chose to define the communications by curved lines on the floor, which also define the different zones in the lobby. Lines are shaped artistically, but they still serve they purpose. Besides the communication zones, space includes relaxation zones, where can students meet and discuss their projects and thoughts. On the walls of the lobby, there are installation systems designed to exhibit the posters. They consist of pulleys, which allows to hang posters in height.
